The Outlook for the UK Conservatory Market24/01/2017
Adding a conservatory or orangery continues to be the favourite way for UK homeowners to gain some extra space and add value to their homes. Business is booming in the conservatories sector and the outlook for future sales is positive as increasing numbers of people see the benefits of installing a conservatory.
The UK conservatory market is estimated to be worth upwards of half as billion pounds annually. Sales nationally have been robust since about 2012 after recovering from a dip linked to the global financial crisis of 2009. New installations account for the bulk of sales, although some people who had conservatories installed in the 1970s and 1980s are taking advantage of the new glass technologies (see below) and upgrading.
There are a whole range of styles to choose from and everybody has their favourites. Sales of uPVC frames still dominate, but timber is getting increasingly popular. Interior design trends are dominated by pale and light colours. Conversely, there is an increase in the popularity of darker stains for exterior frames.
Glass that is insulative, self-cleaning and that can be tinted to produce the quality of light the customer desires has transformed the industry. The modern conservatory is a room that can be enjoyed all year round.
